Mission Statement Friends of 243 is committed to preserving and operating Seahorse Ship 243, a vital training vessel for Sea Scout Crew 243. Through stewardship of this historic ship, we provide hands-on maritime education and leadership development for youth in our community. We are equally dedicated to ensuring that financial barriers never prevent a young person from participating—offering support to scouts in need so they can fully engage in the Sea Scouting experience.
We are a passionate community committed to preserving a proud piece of naval history — a former U.S. Navy ship that now serves a new mission. Beyond her distinguished service record, this vessel is a living classroom for Sea Scout Crew 243, offering hands-on maritime training and leadership development.
Our volunteers generously devote their time and expertise to maintain the ship’s safety and functionality. They mentor, train, and inspire the next generation of mariners, instilling valuable skills and a deep respect for the sea.
Friends of 243 is a 100% volunteer-run organization. No member receives a salary, and every donation goes directly toward maintaining the ship and enriching the Sea Scout experience. Your support helps keep this historic vessel afloat — and our youth empowered.
